Traffic Violations

Bucks County Attorney | Traffic Violations Lawyer

Traffic Violations

Traffic tickets are always an inconvenience, even when they are for minor traffic violations. For example, traffic citations for non-criminal offenses including speeding, running a stop sign or following too closely all carry fines and add points to your driving record. In Pennsylvania, once you have six points on your driving record, you are at risk of having your license suspended. If your driving privileges are suspended, you may have to pay a hefty license reinstatement fee and high-risk car insurance rates. And if you are a truck driver with a commercial driver’s license (CDL), your ability to earn a living could be at risk.

Get Help from an Experienced Traffic Violations Lawyer

Hiring a lawyer can be an inexpensive way to resolve a traffic ticket. Bucks County attorney John M. Kenney has been serving the southeastern Pennsylvania community since 1983 and has extensive experience representing clients who have been cited for traffic violations. Mr. Kenney has appeared before judges and district attorneys throughout Bucks County, Montgomery County, Philadelphia County, as well as in New Jersey Municipal Courts and has extensive knowledge of both Pennsylvania and New Jersey traffic violations laws.

John M. Kenney has obtained successful outcomes for clients with all types of traffic tickets, including:

  • Speeding
  • At-fault accidents
  • Reckless driving
  • Weight violations for commercial trucks
  • Driving without insurance
  • Driving under suspension 75 Pa. C.S.A. 1543

Pennsylvania’s Traffic Violations Point System

The state of Pennsylvania uses a point system to determine the penalties that will be associated with each type of traffic violation. For example, a first-time ticket for exceeding the speed limit by only six to ten miles per hour will result in the addition of two points to your driving record. Other penalties and their associated points include:

  • Failure to stop at a red light – 3 points
  • Failure to stop at railroad crossings – 4 points
  • Exceeding maximum speed limit by 26 – 30 mph – 5 points
  • Failure to stop at school bus with flashing red lights – 5 points plus a 60 day suspension

As an experienced Pennsylvania traffic violations lawyer, John M. Kenney can often get tickets reduced to offenses that result in fewer points being added to your driving record. If you have multiple tickets, Mr. Kenney may be able to get one or more of your tickets dismissed. In most cases, he can appear in traffic court for you so that you do not have to miss work. If your driver’s license has been suspended, Mr. Kenney can also negotiate with the Pennsylvania Department of Traffic (PennDOT) in an attempt to reinstate your driving privileges.
